This year, Mountain Brook High School welcomes a familiar face into a new position. Mrs. Marks, a former English teacher at MBHS, is continuing her career in education as one of the school’s assistant principals.

Throughout her career, Marks has learned the importance of learning for more than just a grade. She encourages students to focus on the learning process rather than simply memorizing information for a test.

“Learn for the sake of learning, not just to cram for a test, because then there is nothing to walk away with,” Marks said.

As an assistant principal, Mrs. Marks hopes to continue making a positive impact on students while supporting them in a different role. Her experience as a teacher has given her an understanding that every student has different needs, and she hopes to use that perspective to better serve the MBHS community.

Now, Marks’ role allows her to listen to students, support their concerns and help make Mountain Brook a place where everyone feels heard.

As she begins this new opportunity, Marks hopes to represent the many different perspectives within the school community.

“I hope in this role I’m able to represent a lot of different viewpoints and be able to best serve everybody,” she said.

Marks also hopes her new position will allow her to connect with students in a different way and ensure that their opinions and concerns are heard.

Her passion for education began at an early age, when she developed a love for teaching and helping others. Throughout her career, she has been driven by a desire to make a difference in the lives of her students. Her experience as an English teacher has

also shown her the importance of collaboration between students and teachers, something she will carry with her into her new role.

For students who knew Mrs. Marks as a teacher, her transition to assistant principal may feel like a familiar face taking on a new role. For those meeting her for the first time, this year offers an opportunity to get to know Mrs. Marks and see the impact she hopes to make at Mountain Brook High School.
